I photograph a lot of newborns. Babies on scales, babies in hats, babies hanging in cloth. Sure it's all cute, but this is my favorite type of image.
It's the KISS part of the shoot and it's the first part of the shoot that I do with a new baby. New babies don't always cooperate for very long and I want to be sure I get these images before anything else. Why these? Because it's not about the hats, bows and random props. Those propped out images make me smile, might even get an awwwww so cute out of me, but they don't take my breath away. They don't have the power that an image like this simple black and white of a new born daughter in the hands of her father has. An image like this makes me suck in my breath and fills me with emotion. An image like this has power because it's what it's all about. It's the REAL story. A new life, a new love, a new family.
Remember to keep it real and keep it simple, stupid.
KISS it.
